I'm a huge punk rock fan. Love all kinds of music, but I always seem to
go back to bands like Ramones, Sex Pistols, Clash, and Black Flag.
I've heard stuff by The Ramones that I thought was good. I've only heard short clips by The Sex Pisttles so I can't really give an opinion on them yet.
Hey. I only kind of gravitated toward punk later in life, which is maybe a bit strange. I've always known/been around punks since I first started getting into heavy music (mostly metal) around the mid 90s, but for some reason the sound just never really took with me until sometime in the last ten years or so. I always liked crust like Amebix of course but it's kind of leaning more toward the metal side. D.R.I. as well. However I've always enjoyed live punk and recently have gotten into records by bands like the Angelic Upstarts, The Damned, Cock Sparrer, Fear, Bad Brains, and Wire (their early stuff was punk anyway and it kicks arse). I also really dig The Wipers. Especially awesome to me is the so-called post punk stuff by bands like Killing Joke and, although they sound very different, Pere ubu.
Oh, another old favourite (actually from before I started really getting into punk) was X with their Los Angeles and Wild Gift albums. A guy I used to know taped me both along with a lot of other mostly good stuff and I was surprised by how much I got into it.
I'm ashamed to say it but my increased affinity for punk kind of coincided with an increased drug intake in my life. I think I'm kind of over that now though and the punk still sticks, so...good right? hahaha
I like old stuff like Discharge, Black Flag, The Bad Brains, Cryptic Slaughter, DRI. The hardcore stuff basically. Kind of embarrassed that I used to like the radio friendly pop punk of the 90's.
Oh, I didnt' mention Discharge because I didn't know if we wanted this topic to veer into hardcore, but yeah, I love them. Nothing feels better than blasting "Hear Nothing, See Nothing, Say Nothing" on a day that really pisses you off.
Wow Damnable reverend you listen all kinds bands I'm into! Glad to see
that I'm not theo only one who goes as deep into the genre.
Ah dude, that's just my thing; I always go deep if I like something, i think that's where all the great treasures are, hidden from view except to those willing to look for them. I'm exactly the same about movies, literature, and other sorts of music I like.
I think I'm going to listen to some Angelic Upstarts right now while I try and straighten up my messy kitchen. hahaha
Anyone like Leftover Crack?
I don't really listen to them, but it seems I'll be seeing them in a couple of weeks. My friends' acoustic folk/punk band is opening for them. The venue is horrible, alas. An oversized shithouse with bad acoustics, expensive, crap beer and overzealous security.
Never heard any folk punk. I've always wanted to form a satyrical thrash metal band with a singer who sounds like Homer Simpson and a tuba player in lieu of a bassist. We would all wear paper hats with magic marker pentagrams on them.
Folk punk is definitely a thing now. I can't think of any excellent examples or I'd put some youtube links up.
I'm all for the idea of adding some brass instruments to meta. But there's too much ironic thrash these days I think...
I fucking love leftover crack. Their latest album that came out last year is
stellar. Great ska-punk-crust-whatever.
ALlright! You should come to this damn show with me then :P
Or just send me some youtube links of tunes that are ace. I've only heard a few and dont' really remember them.

I've been really into this band Pup lately. Here is a song off of their
album that came out this year.

My computer at home died and I can't really listen to music on here. It's all terribly inconvenient. Picking up my Leftover Crack ticket today though.
Have fun!
So, the show was pretty good! This despite the fact that the venue did everything it could to ruin everything with its horrible sound. Also the security staff proved themselves to be complete pricks once again, kicking out some girl because, apparently, they mistook her for someone else who once caused trouble there. I've actually had this happen to me, too, so i know what it's like. People tend to believe their eyes to the exclusion of all else sometimes and many of them just aren't as observant as they think they are.
Anyway, the show ..my friends' band Stinkbox opened up playing acoustic music, although of course they had to have a bit of amplification this time around or else noone would have heard a thin gin that cavernous place. Acoustic guitar, bass, banjo, and now they have a fiddler and a percussionist, too. Pretty rousing stuff, got everybody dancing and stomping around.
I don't even remember the name of the second band. They sounded horrible at first and I couldn't make out anything but bass and vocals and a bit of drums. I got used to it after a while and they were turned out to be some decent thrashy hardcore.
leftover Crack! yeah. Loads of fun. They did play around with some different sounds, as you said, Doorbell, and there was even a full-on basically reggae song. Lots of different vocal styles, some singalongs, people really really getting into it. The singer talked too much between songs though and babbled a lot of crap. hahaha. Sitll, I had a great time.
